What would you propose to improve society if you were an influential politician?

As active members of society, people everyday experience issues they think could be fixed or improved but, what would a teenager improve for society?

As a sixth grade student, my answer would be education. To begin with, a system that does not invest in its most valuable assets, new generations formed on ethical basics and desire to succeed, should surely be remodelled rather than improved. Education is our most powerful tool to prepare our children and build the society we have been looking and fighting for during centuries. Moreover, teachers who do not have a real vocation on teaching or pupils who do not have any problem on missing week by week multiple hours of class, should have no place in the system we want.

To sum up, important disciplines such as politics and even good manners, who play a key role nowadays, are all connected from the beginning with education; a great system produces good citizens, and a better future.

Do you think aliens have ever been on Earth?

Aliens have never visited Earth! Even if there had been ancient paintings or strange drawings, they are just a coincidence. There have never been any kind of evidence and as Niel Degrass Tyson once said: "Clouds can get very weird and different shapes, and they might look like an UFO".

The fact that aliens have never visited Earth, does not means they do not exist. The universe and our galaxy is incredibly vast. It contains billions of planets, and ours can not be the only one that can give live to intelligent lifeforms. But then, why haven't we detected anyone yet? That is where the Fermi Paradox comes into action.

The Fermi Paradox says that an intelligent life form with our current resources can colonize the entire galaxy in 2 million years. Then why have we not came across with anyone? That is the paradox. It have some theories to explain it, like that in some point we may be stuck in a war with machines we created or enter willingly in The Matrix.

The universe is a incredible place and we still have a lot to learn. Maybe, in a near future we may share the galaxy with other species or go to war with them. We are always chasing the future and we will never know for sure.

Do you think that aliens have ever been on Earth?

It is difficult to imagine that the life we know, the life on Earth is the only one that exist in our vast universe. For that reason, I believe that aliens exist, but have they ever been on Earth?

Some people said they have found strange figures that seemed to be aliens in the most unexpected moments, others swear they have seen flying saucers across our wide sky. Probably, all of us have watched at least one of the many science-fiction movies that are based on them. However, from my perspective, that is all just false facts which people invent to earn big quantities of money or cause controversy. My view is that aliens had never been on Earth and that they are not like we imagine. Life out of our planet must exist but we don’t have proofs or clear evidences to demonstrate that this type of life, which we don’t know, have visited Earth at some moment of our existence.

Nobody knows for sure if aliens exist, how they are or where they have been, because of that, this matter causes many curiosity and allows us to make our own opinions based on our beliefs. According to my opinion, they have never coexisted with us on our planet.

Are there some jobs which are more appropriate for men than for women? State your answer and give specific reasons and examples.

We don’t live on an equal society. Even though since we are little kids we are taught that we are equal and we all have the same rights, it is when it comes to work when we ask ourselves questions like “Are there jobs which are more appropriate for men than for women?” that clearly shows us that our society is not equal enough.

I’m sure women can be as good as men in their jobs, and men can be good in what we perceive as “jobs for women”. I think our society is based on gender roles. If you are a girl you shouldn’t like things for boys, and if you are a boy you shouldn’t cry, or like pink because it’s for girls. The same thing happens with jobs. We associate cleaners or babysitters with girls, and engineers or directors with men. From my own experience, I’m the only girl on my technical drawing class, and probably I will be one of the 10% of girls on my future career. I just think this shouldn’t happen, and I know I can be as good as any man on my future job, so I won’t want anybody to tell me that being an engineer is more appropriate for men than for women.

To conclude I want to say that if we want to improve society the first step would be to eliminate gender roles and help both, men and women, to achieve their goals in life.

Would you like to have a photographic memory? Explain why or why not.

In our current society we do not estimate very much the power and importance of memory. Without a good and strong memory we would not be able to reach a university degree or keep forever those beloved memories from the past. Taking this in consideration, would I want to have a photographic memory?

Firstly as a sixth grade student an shortly an undergraduate, having a special photographic memory would give me the opportunity to have a great support at the time of studying. Secondly, for really long tests in terms of memorising I would only need to read the pages inside my mind which were recorded previously at the time of studying; also including different extra materials to have a greater knowledge on my subjects would be a significant option. In contrast, this kind of memory would make me remember useful aspects and also could make me recall about unhappy experiences which I would have forgotten with a regular memory.

In conclusion, I would like to have a photographic memory, I think my life as a student would be easier and it would be a great tool for the future. For me especially when we get old, being able to remember our past experiences it is in fact our most significant asset at the end of our lives.

SOME OF THE MOST FAMOUS PAINTINGS BELONG TO PRIVATE COLLECTIONS. SHOULD THEY BE TAKEN TO MUSEUMS SO THAT EVERYONE COULD ENJOY THEM?

In our classes we are constantly studying pieces of art important for our culture. In my opinion, this is an isssue hard to discuss and even more knowing that I’m only 17 and I don’t usually go to art galleries.

It would be interesting to have the most famous paintings in public museums. Firstly art and culture should be accessible for everyone, it is an important part of Spanish history. Secondly there are some gorgeous pieces of art that not everyone can enjoy, so I think it’s unfair. On the other hand, the people who owned the private collections probably paid a lot of money and they won’t want to give the pieces of art to the museums. For people our age would be interesting and useful to be able to see the pieces of art we are starting a school. From experience I know that if I see a painting or a sculpture with my eyes in a museum I will remember it eassily. People my age don’t usually go to museums and art galleries and that’s culture, so governments should encourage teenagers to visit museums by taking the most famous paintings to public museums.

To conclude art should be for everyone and not just for rich people.

Does technology help you save time or make you waste it?

I believe technology definitely helps us save time. They make things easier and quicker to do. The only times technology would us own are when it malfunctions or when people don´t know how to use it.
For example, if I were to send a message to someone I know, I can do it almost immediately or if I wanted a copy of a document, a printer could do that in seconds.
While mobile phone addiction is prevalent, I don´t think that many people would be better off without one. If someone is delaying their work because they´re on their phone, taking it away won´t force them to be productive. They would find another way of entertaining themselves. A lazy person is a lazy person no matter what they use and they have to change their behaviour.
Although there have been problems with technology, what thing on Earth hasn´t ever had one.
Overall, I think technology has brought a lot more good then it has bad, at the moment. We´ll see what the future holds in store for us...

How would you promote creativity in schools?
Our school system is bases on the existance of hierarchy of subjects. Subjects that promote our creativity are considered less important than those such as Maths or Physics. In my opinion it’s a system’s problem, but how can we change our system to promote creativity?

According to Ken Robinson, an expert on creativity and education, “society has a very limited definition of intelligence”. Our first step to promote creativity is to change our vision of intelligence. We are educated thinking we have to be good at Maths or reading. You won’t find a job if you want to be a singer, or an actor. We need to tell littler kids that they should create, they should draw, they should be however they want, because they are good how they are.
Secondly, we need to change our system. We should encourage students to take classes like art, music pr theatre by increasing the number of those classes. From my own example I can say that in my fourth year of secondary studies (grade 10) I chose science as my itinerary, so I couldn’t choose music, art or theatreas electives. I think this is unfare because maybe I would have liked to take theatre instead of biology.

To conclude, my proposal to promote creativity is to change our definition of intelligence and to give the students a chace to be creative even though they like science subjects. We can be both, scientific and creative.

Who do you thinks benefits more from discount shopping, customers or shops?

Sometimes we think that we can take advantage form sales or discounts for buying those clothes or products we fell in love at the beginning of the season. But, if we think that we are tricking the businesses, we are wrong.

To begin with, at some point of every year shops will need to get rid of those products they couldn't sell months before. When this time comes they decide to put a price which suits the sellers and also appeals the customers. Moreover, nowadays companies have great companies have established a clear benefit rate which cannot be failed to reach. Every store or business has its own sales season which well-known for frequent customers. For this reason shops prepare itselfs to earn more profit during sales, with appealing discount offers, than in regular season. Customers think they are saving money but they are still paying double or even more of the product's value or cost of production.

In conclusion, under my humble opinion every businesses knows the market very well. So if we think we are benefitting from discounts, we should think about how much money companies are making as well. Throughout history the established power has made society think what they wanted them to believe; it hasn't changed until now.

Today, we see automatic houses as an important part of a really near future. But that has been theorised since the 1980's. We can even see it in films like the second part of the Back to the Future saga: a house that would recognize the people who live in it, cook and more. But that is not always helpful.

It is true that, since the invention of the wheel, technology has focused on reducing the effort of our daily work, even to the point where everything is automatic. In a house like that, you won't need to do anything but sit, relax and watch how everything is done for you. That is a good thing, specially if you had a rough day.

But on the other side, our technology dependance would highly increase to the point where we would be unable to do our basic chores like cleaning, since everything would be automatic. Also, the mantainment of the machinery would be quite pricey and less affordable in a forseable future, to the point that the project might be thrown away.

So, for a personal point of view, I'd prefer homes as they are, since I prefer to do things by my own.
